Scooter rental in Canggu: what to know before you ride
Renting a scooter in Canggu follows the same rules as the rest of Bali: a motorcycle licence from your own country plus an International Driving Permit endorsed for motorcycles, a helmet for rider and passenger, and a deposit in cash or as a card hold. In Canggu the traffic is what to plan around.

Do shops in Canggu deliver, and what does the price include?
Shops here often deliver to Batu Bolong, Echo Beach, Berawa and Pererenan, and monthly rental is common. Ask what the price includes, such as helmets, and film the bike before you leave and check the tyres, brakes, lights and fuel.
How bad is the traffic in Canggu?
Canggu is often heavily congested, and a short trip can take far longer than the distance suggests. Congestion is reported at Kerobokan, Sunset Road, Berawa and Pererenan, and late afternoon is the worst. The rice-field shortcut between Jalan Raya Canggu and Jalan Pantai Berawa is narrow, bumpy and busy, so avoid it on a first ride.
How far is Canggu from Seminyak, Ubud and the airport?
From Canggu, Seminyak is about 10 km and 30 to 45 minutes, Ubud and Uluwatu are each roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road, and Tanah Lot is roughly 8 to 15 km. The airport can take from 45 minutes to over two hours, depending on traffic.

Do police check scooters in Canggu?
Police checks happen in Canggu, as in the other tourist areas. Officers can ask to see your licence, your IDP and the bike's registration papers (STNK), and they check your helmet. Fines are set by law as maximums, up to Rp 1.000.000 for riding without a licence, so the amount on the day can differ. Travel insurance often excludes scooters, and riding without the right licence class may void a claim.
What should I photograph at pickup and return?
Photograph and film the bike at pickup and again at return, and keep the clips until your deposit is back.
