How much deposit is normal in Bali?

Most Bali rental shops ask for Rp 500.000 to Rp 2.000.000 in cash, or put a hold on a card, and some ask for nothing at all on a short rental. That is a reasonable request: a deposit is how a shop protects a bike it hands to someone it has only just met.

Two habits protect you in return. Ask for a written receipt that shows the deposit amount and the rental, and film the bike slowly before you ride away, including the plate and every scratch already on it. Keep that video until the deposit is back in your hand; disputes about damage are usually settled by whoever has evidence.

On Rodaku, a shop that has declared its deposit shows it on its own page. Rodaku itself never holds a deposit and adds no fee of its own: the shop sets the terms and keeps the money.

What a normal deposit looks like

A deposit in Bali is normally cash, somewhere between Rp 500.000 and Rp 2.000.000, or a card hold. That is reasonable, and most good shops ask for something.

Rodaku never holds a deposit. Where a shop has declared its deposit (none, cash or a card hold), it is shown on that shop's page.
